Dennis Glennon's
Nature and Outdoor Photography Basics
Read your camera manual --- thoroughly and often.
Buy the best lenses you can afford.
Using film?
Use Fuji Velvia slide film for landscapes. Use Fuji Provia for animal photos.
Network with other photographers to discover great shooting locations
Research your subjects before you get to a location.
Research the position of the sun so you can anticipate where you want to be
early and/or late in the day.
Look at photographs that appeal to you and figure out what makes them work.
Get out at First Light and keep shooting until Last Light.
Always use a tripod. It stays steady. You don't.
To avoid camera shake, use a cable release to click the shutter instead of your hand.
When you are absolutely convinced that nothing good is going to happen,
and you're ready to pack it in, wait 15 minutes and see what happens.
Don't be afraid to make mistakes, just understand how to correct them.
This is how you learn. Besides... nobody ever sees the bad pictures anyway.
